EXECUTIVE ROUND TABLE INSTITUTE

Senior executive level development is one of the most important factors for a successful organization. Although executive learning and development is important, it is often difficult to acquire. The concept of "being lonely at the top" is a reality for many executives. They do not have any outlet to talk with other executives about matters that are important to them and they are limited in learning how others have become successful within their organizations.

Atsaides Associates, Inc. has been actively involved in executive development for over 25 years. Dr. James P. Atsaides, a management psychologist, has coached many executives in a one-on-one manner to help them become more effective leaders. Over the last few years, he has developed the Institute as an executive group learning program. This Institute is an educational and development experience that brings together a group of executives for the purpose of mutual peer learning. This Executive Round Table Institute is a forum for bringing executives together to meet other senior members and talk about matters that are meaningful to all of them. This is a facilitated group study program for executives in business and associations.

What Is The Executive Round Table Institute

The following is a description of the Executive Round Table Institute:

  • An interactive series of eight (8) sessions where executives share their ideas and experiences, learn new skills and techniques, and help each other grow and develop to be most effective in their work.
  • Membership is limited to eight (8) executives. Executive means having the title of President, Vice President, Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, or similar.
  • A skill development program to teach practical skills and techniques to use within the organization
  • An opportunity to ask questions of other executives as to how they run their businesses, how they handle specific matters, and what kind of attitudes they maintain
  • An opportunity for an executive to develop a stronger self esteem, increase self confidence, and maximize his/her potential as an executive
  • Personal assessment of executive work style competencies and personal feedback sessions with a management psychologist to help focus on areas of development
  • Peer feedback exchange about ideas and techniques to help strengthen one's direction. Topics are chosen from the participant's list of areas they want to talk about making the Institute meaningful and timely
  • A learning opportunity to understand key research on executive development topics and how to implement the research findings

Topics That Are Covered In The Institute

The Executive Round Table Institute has a structured program with specific topics. Each session is three (3) hours long and facilitated by Dr. Jim Atsaides. Respected guest executives attend to stimulate the discussion. The topics covered include:

  • Executive leadership style - what is it
  • Competencies that make an executive succeed or fail
  • Decision making style - knowing how to make executive business decisions
  • Communication style - what is the best communication style for an executive
  • How to and what to delegate to others
  • The "One Minute Manager" concepts for executives
  • Setting expectations and holding others accountable
  • Dealing with conflict at the executive level and learning that "conflict is good"
  • Knowing the difference between middle management and executive thinking
  • Being a fiscally sound executive
  • Evaluating others for succession planning purposes
  • Evaluating the current and desired culture of the organization
  • Assessing and improving the team performance of the senior team

Impacting The Development Of The Executive

The Executive Round Table Institute has two key learning components for the executive. The institute (1) helps the executive learn from other executives, and (2) helps them learn from the personal assessment and feedback provided by Dr. Jim Atsaides. During the first portion of the Institute, each executive completes an executive work style assessment. This assessment compares the executive with other executives in areas that deal with interpersonal matters, thinking style, decision making, leadership orientation, delegation, priority setting, etc. At least two personal feedback sessions are a part of this Institute and help bring home some of the important areas for the executive to work on. Participants are encouraged to call upon each other and Dr. Atsaides while they are part of the Institute for continued learning.

    Attendance and Fees

The eight session Executive Round Table Institute takes place at a hotel location every two to three weeks. Calendars are coordinated with all participants since attendance is strongly encouraged. Sessions are usually held between 9 A.M. and noon. Lunch is on your own, although it is encouraged for participants to pair up with each other for continued learning and broader discussions. The fee for the program includes the eight session Executive Round Table Institute, all handouts and program material, and the personal assessments and feedback sessions with Dr. Atsaides. Additional organization consultation is also available.
